Claude Cowork is a desktop app that puts AI directly on your computer. Point it at a folder, and it can create documents, analyze data, build presentations, manage your email, browse the web, and automate repetitive tasks — no coding required.

What is Claude?
Claude is an AI assistant built by Anthropic. It can write documents, analyze spreadsheets, draft emails, create presentations, answer questions, and handle complex multi-step tasks. Unlike simple chatbots, Claude can actually do work on your behalf — creating real files, connecting to your apps, and automating your workflow.
There are several ways to use Claude, but if you're just getting started, the Cowork desktop app is the fastest path to real productivity. No API keys, no terminal commands, no coding — just download the app, point it at a folder, and start asking Claude to do things.
Getting Started with Cowork
Cowork is Claude's desktop app for non-developers. It runs in a lightweight sandbox on your computer, giving Claude controlled access to a workspace folder you choose. Everything Claude creates — documents, spreadsheets, presentations — gets saved right to that folder.
Download the Claude desktop app from claude.ai/download and install it
Open Cowork mode from the app — it will ask you to select a folder from your computer
Select any folder (like your Documents or a project folder) — this is where Claude will save files it creates for you
Start chatting! Ask Claude to create a document, analyze a CSV, build a slide deck, or anything else
When Claude creates a file, it appears in your selected folder instantly
Cowork runs in a secure sandbox on your machine. Claude can read files from and write files to your selected folder, but it can't access anything else on your computer unless you explicitly share it.

Supercharging Cowork with Plugins
Plugins connect Claude to your favorite tools and services. Once you install a plugin, Claude can read from and write to that service directly — no switching between apps.
Gmail — Read your inbox, draft replies, search messages, create drafts. Ask Claude to 'summarize my unread emails' or 'draft a reply to the latest message from Sarah.'
Slack — Read channels, search conversations, send messages. Ask Claude to 'find what the team discussed about the Q2 launch in #marketing.'
Google Drive — Access your documents and spreadsheets. Ask Claude to 'read the budget spreadsheet in my Drive and flag anything over budget.'
Vercel — Deploy and manage web projects. Ask Claude to 'check the build status of my latest deployment.'

When you ask Claude to do something that needs a plugin (like checking your email), it will suggest the right plugin and walk you through connecting it. You can also browse available plugins by asking Claude 'what plugins can I install?'
Scheduling Recurring Tasks
One of Cowork's most powerful features is scheduled tasks. You can set Claude to automatically run tasks on a timer — daily reports, weekly summaries, regular data pulls, and more.

Vague Requests

The more context Claude has, the better. Drop reference files, brand guides, templates, or example docs into your selected folder. Claude can read them and match your style, formatting, and conventions.
Other Ways to Use Claude
Cowork is the best starting point for most people, but Claude is available in other forms too depending on your needs.
claude.ai — The web chat interface. Great for quick conversations, brainstorming, and writing help. Free tier available with limited messages per day.
Claude Code — A terminal-based tool for developers. Gives Claude full access to your codebase for building features, fixing bugs, running tests, and deploying. Incredibly powerful for software engineering.

Claude in Chrome — A browser extension that lets Claude see and interact with web pages. Works alongside Cowork for research, form-filling, and web automation.
